I have Known Farah-Lissa forever! (Our parents are friends.) I remember when we were growing thing how fun, smart and pretty she and her sister were. I was super shocked to find out that recently that she's also amazingly talented! Please support my childhood friend as she shows the world that Pretty Smart ladies do indeed exist!

Farah-Lissa Bio

Born in Miami, FL, Farah-Lissa Alexis began her journey towards musical success at the tender age of 3, when she began singing in her church's choir. Her passion for poetry at 6 years old, fueled her pursuit of songwriting. Her influences include Jazz, Gospel, Haitian Kompa, Soul, Funk, Afro-beat, & World music, to name a few. Farah-Lissa has embraced her versatility & appreciation for diverse styles, incorporating these influences in her music.

Accumulating a song repertoire of over 120 songs written in the past 3 years, she is taking this industry by storm. From Pop, to Gospel, to Hip Hop & R&B, Farah-Lissa writes it all, including Acoustic, Folk, Country & Rock styles. Creating works in English, French, & Haitian Kreyol, this lyricist & composer is an international gem. Known for her strong work ethic, business sense, & attention to detail, Farah-Lissa is proud to be an artist who is reshaping the way the industry & the world perceive young professionals, women, & people of color.

With an eclectic style, creative mind, & the chops to back it up, it's no surprise that Farah-Lissa effortlessly blends multiple genres together. She's able to shift her vocals from an angelic & delicate tone such as the understated Amel Larrieux to a strong & raspy sound reminiscent of the legendary Ms. Lauryn Hill. Farah-Lissa seems to be the perfect blend of soulfulness, uniqueness, & true lyricism.

Farah-Lissa’s Debut single "Infinity",  showcases her strength in writing, arranging, & performing hit records with an approach that is both musically creative & conscious, while maintaining its commercial marketing potential. "Infinity" is just a hint of what is next to come. Soon the world will have an opportunity to experience the melodic expressions, the history-making hits, & the world class essence of the artist named Farah-Lissa.

Happy 4th of July!

Fireworks on the Fourth of JulyImage via Wikipedia

He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from opposition; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach himself.  ~Thomas Paine

I think that this quote is right on the money. Looking away as transgressions against the American Ideal are committed means your giving away your freedom. Freedom for all, not just the people you like or those that look like you.

Let freedom ring, it's independence day.
Happy 4th of July!

Sing-A-Long Saturday :)

On today's addition of Sing-A-Long Saturday I want to share a song that has been on my most played list for a while now. As you know, last weeks Smart Sunday showcased the lovely Miss Coco Jones. This song is a collaboration  with Big Rec that features Coco Jones.  It's called Can We Talk. To me this song is the essence of the hip hop that I miss so much.

To quote Big Rec and his RHHIB movement, Real Hip Hop IS Back!

Big Rec is current on the Summer Of Sum Tour. Click here to get more info and purchase you're tickets!

Smart Sunday- Coco Jones

Hello all you smart and beautiful people!

On this Smart Sunday I would like to introduce you to Ms. Coco Jones

She is the next wave in the revolution of music. This beautiful young lady is a singer, song writer, rapper and graphic designer. Coco Jones is no stranger to the music industry. The first time I saw her perform I was not prepared for the full spectrum of Ms Coco Jones' talent. I suppose I could tell you all about her amazing vocal range, her versatile rap style and her energetic performances. I could but I don't believe I would effectively convey in words what it is to see her in the flesh. I would suggest that you find her in a town near you on the 54 Weeks Tour (

“It may seem crazy to pick up and leave everything familiar to go on a year-long tour to others, but  I’m on this journey to better myself as an artist and as an individual. The tour is a self-funded, grassroots tour much like what many Rock Bands do to be heard. I and 4 other solo artists packed into a van and we’re making it happen on our own, i.e. Bookings, Management, Recording, Packaging, Promo...everything. I believe I need to invest that in myself first before I expect anyone else to do so.”
Jones is taking the tour as an opportunity to perform and push material from “Customs” as well as new solo project, “Anticipating”,  and Mixtape, “Nosce Temet: Know Thyself”.
Coco’s vocals can be heard on a number of independently released projects with artists including BIGREC, THE-5IVE, Collin Gibson, Jawz of Life, Shred the Verbal Tongue, Dangerous Rob, Phurious Stlyes, IMA, and on well knowns like Baby aka Birdman’s album '5 Star Stunna', on the opening track “Fully Loaded”.
Given the sensuality of Janet Jackson, the charisma and edge of Pink, the essence & soul of Mary J. Blige and Aretha Franklin,
and the lyrical prowess of Lauryn Hill, songwriter, vocalist and emcee, CoCo Jones represents the next level of classic music.

Monday Motivation

Albert EinsteinImage by mansionwb via Flickr
Good Morning!

I find that of all the days in the week, Mondays are hardest to get started. Can you relate? Even if you love Mondays (O_o) you should be able to relate to this thought.

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.
      Albert Einstein

That's right. People doubted, opposed and didn't support Albert Einstein, accepted genius. It's OK if the world, your friends or your family do not immediately understand what it is your striving for.

You just keep moving forward. Eventually they will get on board... or they will get lost.

Stay motivated this Monday. Use it as an opportunity to get closer to where you want to be.

Make today great!

Smart Sunday- Shannon Dee

Hello every one!

On this the inaugural Smart Sunday I would like to introduce you Ms. Shannon Dee.

Shannon is beautiful, smart and very talented. When I first met Shannon it was at a model function. Shannon stood out to me because she was intelligent and friendly. She also had a kind word for every person she came in contact with. She is such a great person both inside and out. When asked to tell the world a bit about herself the modest Ms. Dee had this to say:

"What are we doing today Brain?" lol! Right now i'm still in school... working on my Masters. I'll be graduating in December. New Projects... i'm modeling, still attempting to get more into the high fashion scene. I'm taking acting classes so I can hopefully get a principle speaking role in a film this year. We will see how this goes. I'm starting out as a movie reviewer on ( And I just finished my first book, an inspirational story titled "Learning Life's Lessons" which will hopefully be published either this year or early next year. I plan on attending law school next year. And i also plan to to possibly do some coaching/speaking/consulting. Basically wherever God is taking me is where I'll be. :-)

Get to know Ms. Shannon Dee even better by following her on twitter @IamShannonDee

I'm sure you'll agree that she is indeed a bona-fide Pretty Smart young lady. Also check out this feature on her by Miles Jackson.

Beauty and Brains

Good day all!

Today I am announcing a new segment that I will be presenting on the blog. I always feel a bit off kilter when some one is shocked that I am well spoken. I am personally against the notion that girls may only be pretty or smart.  Why choose? I know many women who are Brilliant Beauties. To prove that point I will be spotlighting some of these ladies on Smart Sundays. If you know any Pretty Smart ladies please refer them to me so that we can put this terrible stereotype to bed.

(Pretty Smart- pretty and smart )

Have a great day!

I Stand

This is a poem I wrote for HLA (Haitians Living in Atlanta) Cultural Event on 4/23/2011. It was AWESOME. Hope you like the poem. Next post I'll be sharing some info on some the other amazing performers who were there.

I stand for our history, before 1804

I stand for the brothers and sisters that were taken from their land and brought to lands unknown

I stand for the forefathers who would not lie idly while our people suffered

I stand for our past, for although it is behind us there are yet lessons to be learned

I stand for the tragedy that we have endured, for the pain that we have suffered, for the dancing that we have done, for the laughter that we have enjoyed

I stand for the mothers,

I stand for the fathers who continue to be providers in their homes, who continue to be examples to their families and who continue to lead us.

I stand for the women who suffer under the burden of feeding their children, who wonder when the next meal will come, who continue to thrive and love and do all that they can in a land that has been raped, pillaged and left barren.

I stand for the children who will become our future. They will be left to deal with the consequences of our actions.

I stand for the present because right now is the time for us to take our land back, to take both our memories and dreams and turn them all into reality. Now is the time to turn all the possibilities into amazing actualities.

I stand for the future of Haiti.

I stand for all the things we know can be and all that we will achieve.

I stand for the strength of our men, the beauty of our women and the intelligence of our youth.

I stand with every one of my brothers and sisters who is not afraid to say,

I stand for Haiti.

Happy New Year! :)

Happy New Year 2011Image by [ Mooi ] via Flickr
Its a new year!
Traditionally for the new year people make new years resolutions.
I don't think I will have any resolutions this year.
If anything this year I resolve to do what makes me happy.
I suggest that you do the same. For 2011 I suggest that everyone
make their happiness a top priority.

I wish you all health, happiness and prosperity.
