The Relatable Blog Series: Felicia Freebie

Do I Look Like a Slut?Image via Wikipedia

It’s shortly after six am and I’m wide awake. I don’t have any particular place to be. This morning I’m up early because Michael has to be at work in a short while. Michael is a real great guy. I love watching him dress in the morning. I never let him know I’m up. I just lie on my side and watch him. He always puts his socks on first. It’s like he starts on the bottom and works his way up. He’s like that with everything. He says no one misses out by working on the foundation of things.  I agree with him. Most of the time.

My name is Felicia. I’m falling in love with a man I’m afraid to call my boyfriend.  It’s not that I don’t think he’d be a good mate. I think he'd make an excellent mate. I’m just not sure I’m ready to let go of the others. Yes there are others.  There’s Tim, he’s an amazing kisser. There’s also Jim, who is the BEST listener, and such a cutie patootie. And Eric, Kareem and John. Of course I'm not sleeping with all of them, at this time.

I often find that I like more than one person at a time. When I was younger they called me a flirt. The names have gotten far worse as I have gotten older. I always wonder how it's possible for a man to be intimate with twice as many partners as I can glance at and its not a problem. He is a player. He is a ladies man. He is sowing his oats, royal or otherwise.

As a woman, I am loose. I am nasty. I am to be shunned. It doesn't bother me. I know I'm not those things. What's more, even if I was, it would not be a problem. I could always say I was getting in touch with my masculine side.

Michael is done getting dressed and leans down to kiss me good by. I mumble something about him having a good day at work. I lay in the bed for several minutes after he leaves. When I am certain that he will not be returning for any forgotten items I reach under the mattress and retrieve my phone. There are calls to make and text to respond to. Before long my days schedule is packed.  Breakfast with Jim, meeting Eric at the gym, lunch with John and coffee with Kareem. Tim wants to get together but he doesn't know what his schedule looks like for the day yet. I probably won't be seeing him. It's difficult for me to pencil people in on days like this.

No more lolly-gagging for me. Soon the day will start and I can't let it start without me. As I hop in the shower I am tempted to call a few of my single friends and let them know that there are plenty of good men out there.  I smile as I think better of it. They would shoot them all down or lament their inability to find their own. Then they would call each other and talk. They would say that I wasn't lucky in love. Rather I was lucky in bed.

Easy. Sleazy. Slut. Floozy. Harlot. Tramp.

It doesn't bother me any. I know that I am not those things.

Discussion:

Do you know a Felicia Freebie?
Is she what you would consider promiscuous?
Do you think she is affected by what people think of her?

Are you a Felicia Freebie?

The Relatable Blog Series: Steppin' Susie

The Cheshire Cat as he appears in Disney's Ali...Image via Wikipedia

"Good afternoon miss."

I looked down at the guy who was holding the door for me. He was smiling up in my face. Uh Uh. That's not going to work. He is too short.

"Thank you sir," I said as I quickly made my way past him. I wasn't about to give him a chance to try to talk to me. He couldn't get any play from me even on his best day. As I strutted away from him I took a chance to look back and see if he'd gained on me. To my surprise he was nowhere to be found. Just as I started to slow down I felt a massive weight slam into me. I was ready to be all kinds of upset. Until my eyes collided with the deepest set of brown eyes I'd ever seen. His full lips mouthed to me, "I'm sorry" and I realized he was on the phone. Before I could make light of his tackling me he was making his way past me and was out of my sight.

I was still standing there looking where he had been when a conservatively dressed gentleman approached me.

"Are you okay? I saw that oaf barrel into you and run off."
"Yes. I'm fine. Thank you for asking sir."
"Are you sure? Would you care for an escort to your destination?"
"No, thank you. I'm perfectly fine."

He smiled at me.

"You have a pleasant day," He said with a smile. His smile was nice enough. It did not even begin to compare with the guy on the phone but it was nice enough. If I didn't hurry I was going to be late meeting Felicia for lunch. She hates it when I’m late.

"Thank you for joining me princess tardy."
"So you have jokes? For your information I was mauled and chased on my way here."
"Oh really?"

By the look on Felicia's face it was obvious that she was skeptical about my story.

"Yes, really. I also think I met the man of my dreams. Well I saw him but we didn't actually get an introduction. Maybe next time. How are you today?"

"Oh I'm fine."

She had a grin to rival the Cheshire cat's.

"Why are you so happy today? What happened? Did you get a raise?"

"I did get something but it was not a raise."

"OOOHHHH! You nasty Ms. Felicia!"

"And you're jealous!"

"Whatever! I'm just not fast and free with mine. Was it Michael?"

"It is none of your business who it was with!"

"So it wasn't Michael. I tell you! For the life of me I cannot begin to understand where you find all these men! I am searching high and low and can't seem to find one anywhere! At this point I will take a half decent one, he doesn't even have to be a good man."

"Good men are all around you. You just need to stop being so quick to send them packing. You always tell them to get the steppin'. You don't even give them a chance to fix whatever you THINK is wrong."

"There you go. So it’s my fault I'm single? I should just accept whatever some knuckle head throws my way? Or are you suggesting that I start letting them all into my bed and just keep hoping one of them will want to keep me? If those are my choices I'm happy being single."

They both chuckle as they dig into their lunch knowing, as good friends do, that this conversation will be had again.

Discussion:

How many of us, male and female, are like Susie? How quickly do you write off potential mates?
More importantly how often do we find ourselves in dating misery due to our own choices?

Next time we meet Felicia Freebie! Till then be safe!

Be honest. Are you judging?

Gavel | Andrew F. Scott: P6033577Image by afsart via Flickr

I saw the recent episode of TV One's Life After featuring Karinne Steffans (Superhead). I feel the need to ask have you judged her and others like her? How often do we see a surface situation and make judgments? Are those judgments warranted? I've included a link to the episode just for reference. This issue of judgement is larger than just her though. Ask yourself if your guilty of judging your peers. If you are, ask yourself how you would fare on the other side of those judgments.

IMG_4484Image by Muriel215 via Flickr

Everyone wants to talk about relationships but no one seems willing to have honest discussions. I will be posting a blog series on relationships. I want to start discussing it. The series will function as an open forum. Of course all the articles will be biased because its all from my point of view. Feel free to chime in with your take. It will be entitled, The Relatable series. I hope you can relate. :)

Sometimes you want to hold on to people and things because you think its the right thing to do. The truth is that "Every thing ain't for everybody". Some times it hurts us to admit that but its true. Holding onto to people and things may be holding you back. Let go and see how far you can get. Thats my plan. I'm letting go and letting God help. :) Join me on my adventures?
