"Good afternoon miss."I looked down at the guy who was holding the door for me. He was smiling up in my face. Uh Uh. That's not going to work. He is too short.
"Thank you sir," I said as I quickly made my way past him. I wasn't about to give him a chance to try to talk to me. He couldn't get any play from me even on his best day. As I strutted away from him I took a chance to look back and see if he'd gained on me. To my surprise he was nowhere to be found. Just as I started to slow down I felt a massive weight slam into me. I was ready to be all kinds of upset. Until my eyes collided with the deepest set of brown eyes I'd ever seen. His full lips mouthed to me, "I'm sorry" and I realized he was on the phone. Before I could make light of his tackling me he was making his way past me and was out of my sight.
I was still standing there looking where he had been when a conservatively dressed gentleman approached me.
"Are you okay? I saw that oaf barrel into you and run off."
"Yes. I'm fine. Thank you for asking sir."
"Are you sure? Would you care for an escort to your destination?"
"No, thank you. I'm perfectly fine."
He smiled at me.
"You have a pleasant day," He said with a smile. His smile was nice enough. It did not even begin to compare with the guy on the phone but it was nice enough. If I didn't hurry I was going to be late meeting Felicia for lunch. She hates it when I’m late.
"Thank you for joining me princess tardy."
"So you have jokes? For your information I was mauled and chased on my way here."
"Oh really?"
By the look on Felicia's face it was obvious that she was skeptical about my story.
"Yes, really. I also think I met the man of my dreams. Well I saw him but we didn't actually get an introduction. Maybe next time. How are you today?"
"Oh I'm fine."
She had a grin to rival the Cheshire cat's.
"Why are you so happy today? What happened? Did you get a raise?"
"I did get something but it was not a raise."
"OOOHHHH! You nasty Ms. Felicia!"
"And you're jealous!"
"Whatever! I'm just not fast and free with mine. Was it Michael?"
"It is none of your business who it was with!"
"So it wasn't Michael. I tell you! For the life of me I cannot begin to understand where you find all these men! I am searching high and low and can't seem to find one anywhere! At this point I will take a half decent one, he doesn't even have to be a good man."
"Good men are all around you. You just need to stop being so quick to send them packing. You always tell them to get the steppin'. You don't even give them a chance to fix whatever you THINK is wrong."
"There you go. So it’s my fault I'm single? I should just accept whatever some knuckle head throws my way? Or are you suggesting that I start letting them all into my bed and just keep hoping one of them will want to keep me? If those are my choices I'm happy being single."
They both chuckle as they dig into their lunch knowing, as good friends do, that this conversation will be had again.
Discussion:
How many of us, male and female, are like Susie? How quickly do you write off potential mates?
More importantly how often do we find ourselves in dating misery due to our own choices?
Next time we meet Felicia Freebie! Till then be safe!
